'Inside Out 2' surpasses 'Frozen 2' as highest-grossing animated movie

Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” features Amy Poehler and Maya Hawke as the voices of Joy and Anxiety. The film has broken records, surpassing $1.46 billion in global ticket sales, becoming the highest-grossing animated feature of all time, surpassing “Frozen II.”

This success comes after a series of hits and misses at the box office for Disney, especially with its animated releases, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Pixar had struggled as Disney released some animated features directly on Disney+ instead of theatrically.

Despite these challenges, “Inside Out 2” has been a massive success, with the film yet to open in Japan, a market that contributed significantly to the global box office of its predecessor in 2015. The film’s box office numbers are expected to continue rising in the coming weeks.
