2) Meta introduces latest language model: Meta unveils Llama 3.1 405B, an open source language model rivaling GPT-4o. With a context window of 128k tokens, it offers new use cases like synthetic data generation and model distillation to compete in human evaluations and benchmarks.
3) Apple Maps comes to web: Apple Maps’ public beta on the web allows global users to access driving directions, gas station info, and comprehensive place details directly from Chrome and Safari browsers. Users can order food, explore guides, and find recommended places in various cities conveniently.
4) Google backtracks on removing third-party cookies: Google abandons plans to remove third-party cookies from Chrome, opting for a new system where users can select their tracking preferences. Vice President of Privacy Sandbox, Anthony Chavez, explains the decision to provide users greater control over their browsing data.
5) Elon Musk’s X enables disabling replies: Elon Musk’s social media platform X will introduce a feature allowing users to disable links in replies to their posts. Aimed at combating spam bots, the feature is not officially announced yet but was confirmed by X’s senior director for security engineering in response to a post.
