Roblox to launch paid video games and allow developers to sell merchandise on platform

Roblox will introduce paid video games and allow developers to sell physical merchandise within their games on its platform. The company will set prices in real currency for desktops and offer creators up to 70% revenue share. Paid experiences will launch on PCs this year, expanding to other devices later.

Roblox’s new revenue share model for paid experiences aims to provide creators with an additional way to earn on the platform. Unlike traditional game companies, Roblox relies heavily on user-generated content for engagement and has paid over $800 million to creators in the past year.

In a bid to further monetize, Roblox has partnered with Shopify to enable individual creators to sell physical merchandise from their games and has collaborations with brands like Walmart and Elf Beauty for in-game stores. These efforts could help Roblox navigate a challenging gaming industry landscape.
