McDonald’s to extend $5 value meal offer into December
From CNBC: 2024-09-13 10:31:00
McDonald’s will extend its $5 value meal into December in most U.S. markets to attract lower-income consumers. About 80% of franchisees have voted to extend the value meal, with additional locations possibly being added. The meal includes a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, small fries, four-piece chicken nuggets, and a small soft drink for $5.
McDonald’s plans to offer local promotions and deals via its app in the coming weeks, in addition to the $5 value meal. The move follows a focus on value by other restaurant chains like Burger King and Starbucks. After a decline in second-quarter sales, McDonald’s will continue to emphasize affordability to win back customers.
McDonald’s U.S. President Joe Erlinger mentioned struggles with affordability in a memo to operators after the July earnings report. He urged a longer-term approach to rebuilding customer trust, highlighting the success of the $5 meal trial among low-income consumers. The company aims to regain its position as a leader in value and affordability.
