Google Wins Court Bid Against EU’s EUR 1.5 Bln Atitrust Fine Over AdSense

Google wins legal fight with the EU over a $1.7 billion fine for online ads search abuse. The General Court annuls the fine, stating the EU regulators made mistakes in their investigation. The ruling can be appealed to the ECJ. Commission imposed fines relate to AdSense from 2019. Google made changes to contracts in 2016.

In a separate case, ECJ upheld a $2.65 billion fine on Google for favouring its comparison shopping service. UK’s CMA found Google abused its dominance in ad tech, with ongoing probes by US Department of Justice and EU. Google says the recent ruling recognized errors and annulled the fine.
