General Motors (GM) announced a software update for its electric vehicles, allowing them to use Tesla’s charging port, known as the North American Charging Standard. Owners of Chevy, Cadillac, and GMC electric vehicles must buy GM-approved Tesla adapters for $225. Future BEV models will have the port built-in, while existing BEVs can use adapters.
After the update, GM customers will have access to 17,800 Tesla Supercharger plugs, addressing the issue of limited charging stations. The company will also update its apps to help users find nearby Superchargers, check availability, and make payments. In June 2023, GM was one of the first automakers to adopt Tesla’s NACS, joining others like Ford, Hyundai, and BMW.
