GM reports 2.2% decrease in third-quarter sales, but EVs make gains

General Motors reported a 2.2% drop in third-quarter sales, selling 659,601 vehicles, beating industry expectations. EV sales rose by 60% to 32,100 units, making up 4.9% of total sales. GM’s market share in the U.S. EV market increased to 9.5%, helped by the Cadillac Lyriq crossover selling 7,224 units.

Hyundai brand reported a 5% increase in total third-quarter sales, while Toyota Motor had an 8% decrease, including a 20.3% drop in September. Nissan’s sales declined by 2.2% to 212,068 vehicles sold in the third quarter, reflecting the overall industry trend. GM’s total sales in 2024 through the third quarter were 1.95 million vehicles, down 1% compared to the same period in 2023.
