Eli Lilly is investing $4.5 billion in a new center, the Lilly Medicine Foundry, to improve medicine manufacturing efficiency. The facility will combine research and production, opening in 2027 to develop small molecules, biologics, and genetic medicines. The move follows success with obesity drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound, expected to generate $50 billion by 2028.

Lilly plans to focus on new drugs for Alzheimer’s and ALS, aiming to keep growing after the success of Mounjaro and Zepbound. With a market cap of $840 billion and stock soaring 65% in the past year, Lilly aims for breakthroughs with 11 obesity drugs in the pipeline, including orforglipron and retatrutide in Phase 3 trials.

CEO David Ricks sees value in exploring new mechanisms in obesity treatment, aiming for a trillion-dollar market cap. Despite the goal, he emphasizes creating value through innovation and advanced healthcare solutions. Lilly’s success in the pharmaceutical industry positions it for continued growth and development in the coming years.
