The U.S. lifts ban on Brightway Group, allowing Malaysian glove maker to resume sales after 3 years due to alleged labour abuses. The company and its subsidiaries have been allowed to export to the U.S. from Oct. 11 after taking steps to address forced labour practices identified by the CBP in 2021.

Brightway Group faced a ban in 2021 after 10 out of 11 forced labour indicators were found by the International Labour Organization in its production process. The CBP, however, did not specify which indicators were breached. Malaysia, a major producer of medical gloves, relies on migrant workers but faces accusations of exploitation in various industries.

The U.S. ban on Brightway Group’s disposable gloves was due to suspicions of forced labour practices. After taking required actions, the CBP has allowed the company and its subsidiaries to resume exports to the United States from October 11, 2022. Malaysia has been criticized for exploiting migrant workers in key export industries.
