CDC notified about outbreak last week

From CNBC: 2024-10-23 13:54:39

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified McDonald’s about a potential E. coli outbreak linked to Quarter Pounder burgers, with 49 cases and one fatality reported in 10 states. McDonald’s has removed the affected burgers from restaurants in impacted areas and is working with health agencies to address the issue.

The CDC is investigating uncooked onions and beef patties in Quarter Pounders as potential sources of contamination. McDonald’s uses multiple beef suppliers but a single onion supplier in the region. The outbreak, which occurred between Sept. 27 and Oct. 11, has led to a 5% drop in McDonald’s stock.

McDonald’s is facing backlash amid the outbreak as it tries to attract customers with a $5 value meal deal. The company has removed Quarter Pounders from affected areas and stopped their onion supply. As investigations continue, the fast-food chain is working with health agencies to address the situation and ensure food safety.
