Microsoft is expected to report Q1 earnings with growth in revenue and challenges due to software

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella participated in the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment Event at the G7 Summit in Italy. Microsoft is set to report its fiscal first-quarter results, with analysts expecting earnings per share of $3.10 and revenue of $64.51 billion, implying 14% annual growth. Changes in reporting segments will now include mobility and security services under Productivity and Business Processes. Analysts project $27.9 billion in revenue for this segment. The Intelligent Cloud segment, which includes Azure, is expected to bring in $24.04 billion in revenue, with projected Azure growth ranging from 29.4% to 32.8%. Alphabet’s cloud business grew nearly 35% to $11.35 billion, surpassing estimates. Microsoft’s More Personal Computing segment is expected to generate $12.56 billion. Microsoft faced challenges during the quarter due to a flawed update to CrowdStrike security software, which led to global PC outages. Microsoft is collaborating with BlackRock on a $30 billion artificial intelligence infrastructure investment fund. The company’s AI investments, including in ChatGPT creator OpenAI, will be closely watched by investors. Microsoft’s stock was up about 15% for the year, with an earnings call scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
