United Airlines raises requirements to earn frequent flyer status

From CNBC: 2024-10-30 14:50:29

United Airlines is increasing the thresholds to earn elite status in its MileagePlus program by about 25% next year. This change will require customers to spend more on co-branded cards or a combination of spending and flying. The perks earned in 2025 will be valid in 2026, including free upgrades, earlier boarding, and extra legroom options. The lowest level status, Silver Premier, will require customers to earn 5,000 premier qualifying points and fly 15 qualifying flights, up from 4,000 points and 12 flights. Customers can also earn one premier qualifying point for every $1 spent on United flights and other qualifying flights. Silver status can be achieved by spending $6,000 on United flights, up from $5,000, regardless of the number of flights taken. Gold, Platinum, and 1K status thresholds have also been increased for 2025.
