Alibaba: Taobao & Tmall Achieve Record GMV, Active Buyers During 16th Annual 11.11 Shopping Festival

Alibaba’s Taobao and Tmall saw strong growth in GMV and active buyers during the 11.11 Shopping Festival. The event began in 2009 with just 27 merchants. 88VIP members ordering increased by over 50% year-on-year. Sixty-six apparel brands, 79 beauty brands, and 34 consumer electronics brands surpassed RMB100 million in GMV.
New consumption trends helped four designer toy brands and 34 sports brands surpass RMB100 million in GMV. 589 brands exceeded RMB100 million in GMV, up from 402 last year. 45 brands, including Apple and Nike, achieved over RMB1 billion in GMV. The 11.11 Shopping Festival continues to set new records.
