The S&P 500 closed higher on Thursday, driven by cyclical stocks while tech lagged due to Google’s regulatory concerns. At 4:00 p.m. ET, the Dow rose 1.1%, the Nasdaq added 0.5%, and the S&P 500 rose 0.04%.

Initial jobless claims unexpectedly fell by 6,000 to 213,000 last week, indicating a rebound in job gains. Federal Reserve members remain cautious on rate-cut outlook.

Nvidia shares rose despite weak guidance for the fourth quarter, citing supply constraints. Alphabet Inc Class A shares fell over 4% after the Department of Justice demanded Google sell its Chrome web browser.

Starbucks stock rose as they consider options for their China business. Snowflake stock soared 33% after beating estimates, while Baidu stock fell 6% after posting an annual drop in third-quarter revenue.
