Meta Platforms faces trial in Spain over unfair competition with media companies, alleging EU data violations

Facebook owner Meta Platforms will go to trial in October 2025 in Spain over a 551 million euro complaint from 80+ media companies for unfair competition in advertising. The AMI media association filed the lawsuit, alleging Meta violated EU data protection rules from 2018-2023. Meta did not comment. Prisa and Vocento are among the complainants. Spanish TV and radio associations also sued Meta. Legacy media wants fair fees for content use. Meta has scaled back news promotion in other markets. ($1 = 0.9471 euros)
