Southwest and American airlines raise sales outlooks, shares jump

Southwest and American Airlines raised their fourth-quarter forecasts due to strong demand and higher fares. Southwest predicts a 5.5-7% rise in unit revenue, while American expects unit revenue to be on par or up to 1% from 2023. American also raised its adjusted earnings estimate. Southwest plans to complete its first sale-leaseback of aircraft. American selected Citi as its sole credit-card provider, dropping Barclays. JetBlue Airways also raised its revenue forecast and plans to cut unprofitable routes and adjust its summer 2025 Europe schedule.
