U.S. TikTok users are spending big on TikTok Shop this holiday season, with sales reaching $100 million on Black Friday. A federal appeals court upheld a law requiring ByteDance to divest TikTok in the U.S. by early next year. TikTok Shop competes with Shein and Temu by showcasing third-party vendors’ merchandise.

Merchants on TikTok Shop leverage TikTok’s popularity to market products to its 170 million U.S. users, using ads and influencers. Orders are fulfilled by merchants directly, providing shoppers like Jasmine Whaley with a new place to find clothing, skincare products, and Crocs. TikTok Shop offers “LIVE” sessions for direct merchandise purchases.

Nico Le Bourgeois, head of U.S. Operations for TikTok Shop, noted a significant increase in Live sessions over the past year. Facteus data revealed that U.S. spending on TikTok Shop surpassed Shein and Temu in the lead-up to Cyber Monday. The platform offers a new e-commerce channel for brands and has the potential to disrupt the e-commerce market.
