OpenAI asks a federal judge to reject Elon Musk’s request to halt its conversion to a for-profit company. Musk initially supported for-profit status before launching a competing AI company, xAI. Musk sued OpenAI, claiming they put profits ahead of the public good. Microsoft denies conspiring with OpenAI to monopolize AI market. OpenAI plans to restructure as a for-profit benefit corporation with a minority stake owned by the nonprofit. Hearing on Musk’s injunction bid set for Jan. 14.
