Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway scoops up Occidental and other stocks during sell-off

Warren Buffett increased Berkshire Hathaway’s stake in Occidental Petroleum by purchasing 8.9 million shares worth $405 million. Additionally, Buffett bought 5 million shares of Sirius XM for $113 million and 234,000 shares of VeriSign for $45 million. These purchases totaled over $560 million during a market pullback.

Occidental Petroleum’s stock dropped over 10% this month, while Sirius XM fell 23% and VeriSign is down 6% in 2024. Berkshire’s stake in Sirius XM has risen to about 35% due to Liberty Media’s deal. Buffett’s purchases came as these stocks became cheaper amid market volatility.
