The U.S. Senate passed a law in April requiring TikTok’s Chinese parent company to divest the app due to national security concerns. If no divestment occurs, TikTok could be banned on Jan. 19. Trump met with TikTok’s CEO and expressed his fondness for the app’s success with his campaign. The Justice Department argues that Chinese control of TikTok poses a national security threat, supported by most U.S. lawmakers. TikTok disputes this, stating user data is stored in the U.S. on Oracle servers.
