A strike at Starbucks U.S. stores will expand to over 300 locations, with 5,000 workers expected to walk off the job before Christmas Eve. Talks between the company and union hit an impasse over wages, staffing, and schedules, leading to the strike. Starbucks did not comment on the situation.

Starbucks Workers United, representing employees at 525 stores, shut down 60 U.S. stores in major cities like New York and Los Angeles on Monday. The Christmas Eve strike is expected to be the largest ever at the coffee chain. A barista from Oregon stated that the strikes are just the beginning.

The Seattle-based company is prepared to continue negotiations, claiming the union delegates ended the bargaining session prematurely. Earlier this month, workers rejected an offer of no immediate wage increase and a guarantee of a 1.5% pay raise in the future. The union accuses Starbucks of lacking a serious economic proposal for workers.
