Victims of Bernard Madoff receive $4.3 billion payout from US government fund.

The U.S. government fund compensating Bernard Madoff’s victims will distribute a final $131.4 million, totaling $4.3 billion to 40,930 victims. Former SEC chairman Richard Breeden oversees the fund, which will have paid out an average of 93.71% of proven losses by 2025, including $14.72 billion recouped by trustee Irving Picard. Victims in 127 countries received payouts. Madoff’s $64.8 billion fraud went undiscovered until his 2008 confession to his sons. He died in prison in 2021 at age 82.
