First-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits unexpectedly dropped to 211,000, a decrease of 9,000 from the previous week. Economists had anticipated an increase to 222,000. Jobless claims are now at their lowest level since April 2019, indicating a strong labor market. The four-week moving average also decreased to 223,250. Continuing claims fell by 52,000 to 1.844 million, with the average dropping to 1,870,750.
