TSX closed strong with materials and energy stocks rising due to high metal and oil prices.

The Canadian market closed strong as materials and energy stocks rose, supported by high metal and oil prices. Canada’s manufacturing activity continued to expand for a fourth month, with the S&P Global Canada Manufacturing PMI reaching 52.2 in December 2024. Hut 8 Corp, Transcontinental Inc, and other companies saw gains of 3-7%. Wheaton Precious Metals, Sprott Inc, and other firms also increased by 3-4%. Notable gains were observed in Stella-Jones, Canadian Pacific Kansas City, TC Energy Corporation, and more. The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed at 24,898.03, up 0.69% or 170.09 points.
