Exxon Mobil filed a lawsuit against California AG and environmental groups, accusing them of defaming its advanced plastics recycling initiatives. The lawsuit, filed in Texas, alleges collusion between the AG and a law firm with ties to Exxon’s Australian rivals. Exxon is seeking damages and a retraction of statements.

Last year, California AG sued Exxon for deceiving about recycling limitations. Exxon’s advanced recycling tech breaks down hard-to-recycle plastics for reuse. Exxon also sued activist investors over a climate change proposal, which was eventually thrown out by a U.S. judge.

Exxon announced plans to invest $200 million in Texas to expand its advanced recycling capabilities. The company has been selling off its California oil and gas properties while criticizing the state’s energy regulations. Exxon continues to face backlash from environmentalists and critics.
