DLocal, a leading Latin American payment player, secures U.K. payment institution license to expand globally. With a focus on emerging markets, such as Latin America, Africa, and Asia, DLocal plans to onboard U.K. merchants through a local entity, Larstal Limited, overcoming previous restrictions due to Brexit.
Established in 2016, DLocal specializes in cross-border payments for markets like Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and Uruguay. With over 30 licenses worldwide, DLocal aims to increase its U.K. footprint, despite fierce competition from established fintech players like PayPal, Stripe, and Adyen operating in Britain.
DLocal, which went public on Nasdaq in 2021 with a $9 billion valuation, is not currently for sale, according to CEO Pedro Arnt. Despite a market capitalization decline to $3.4 billion, the stock has risen 40% in the last six months. Arnt emphasizes the benefits of being a public company for transparency and commercial opportunities.
