BlackBerry's QNX unit partners with Microsoft for automotive software, shares rise 11%

BlackBerry Limited (BB) has made strategic decisions to enhance its QNX division and expand innovation in automotive software solutions. The partnership with Microsoft (MSFT) aims to accelerate Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) development using Azure Cloud. Investors responded positively, with BB’s shares rising by 11.14% to $4.09 on Jan. 06.
Through the QNX Everywhere initiative, aspiring developers can access resources and training to create innovative solutions. QNX, Vector, and TTTech Auto have collaborated to develop a foundational vehicle software platform, simplifying integration for automakers. BB currently holds a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) and has seen a 26.3% increase in share price over the past year.
QNX and Microsoft’s partnership will provide automakers with a cloud-based environment to accelerate software development for SDVs. The QNX Cabin framework enables OEMs to virtualize digital cockpit development in the cloud, enhancing collaboration and reducing time-to-market. BB will showcase its automotive solutions at CES 2025 and demonstrate the capabilities of SDP 8.0 on Azure.
