Freddie Mac’s Primary Mortgage Market Survey revealed that the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.93 percent on January 9, 2025. This is a slight increase from last week’s average of 6.91 percent and significantly higher than the 6.66 percent average from a year ago. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage also saw a slight increase to 6.14 percent from 6.13 percent last week. The continued strength of the economy is contributing to the rise in mortgage rates, impacting housing affordability.
