The number of air passengers is expected to double by 2050, leading to increased fuel demand and emissions, according to a study by Transport and Environment. Steps to limit air travel growth include airport infrastructure limits and increased taxes on the sector.

The aviation industry plans to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to reduce emissions and reach net zero by 2050. However, limited supply and high prices hinder widespread use of SAF, with fuel consumption projected to rise by 59% by 2050.

Despite efforts to reduce emissions, plane manufacturers Airbus and Boeing are projecting growth in the coming years, leading to increased emissions. The industry is urged to take more action to address environmental concerns and reduce reliance on traditional fuel sources.
