The European Commission is reconsidering its investigations into tech giants like Apple, Meta, and Google, following calls from the companies for U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene. The review may result in changes to the probes launched since March 2024 under the Digital Markets Act, which aims to regulate tech giants’ market dominance.

The DMA is a strict regulation targeting tech giants, imposing obligations for content moderation, fair competition, and consumer service switching. Decision-making and potential fines will be paused while the review is ongoing, though technical work on the cases will continue. European regulators are awaiting political direction on the cases involving Google, Apple, and Meta.

Apple, Meta, Google, and the European Commission have not provided immediate comments. The DMA, implemented in 2022, aims to limit Big Tech’s power and create fair competition for smaller competitors.
