Chinese hedge fund managers are rushing to launch “All Weather” products inspired by Bridgewater Associates to shield investors from volatility during Trump’s second term. Bridgewater’s onshore China strategy outperformed rivals last year with a 37% return. Global hedge fund Man Group is also preparing to offer a similar strategy to mainland investors.
The “All Weather” strategy, designed in 1996 by Ray Dalio, diversifies investments across assets to perform well in any economic condition. Bridgewater China’s version proved resilient during the trade war and pandemic, managing about 40 billion yuan in 2024 with positive returns every year. Other Chinese hedge funds are launching similar products to meet high demand for stability.
Major players like SHQX Asset Management and Shanghai Luoshu Investment Co are joining the race to excel in the “All Weather” strategy. The opportunity has lured global hedge fund Man Group, with its China unit preparing to offer mainland investors access to a similar strategy. The flight to safety among Chinese investors has led to a surge in popularity for volatility-mitigating strategies.
