Indian shares plummeted on fears of a trade war as Trump imposed 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Geopolitical tensions and slowing earnings growth added to market concerns. Trump is expected to announce reciprocal tariffs soon. The Sensex fell 1.32% to 76,293.60, while the Nifty closed down 1.32% at 23,071.80. Mid-cap and small-cap indexes dropped 2.9% and 3.4% respectively. The rupee surged 0.7% against the dollar, despite being Asia’s worst-performing currency this year with $9 billion outflows from Indian equities. Prominent decliners included BEL, Coal India, and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise.
