The New York Stock Exchange is launching an exchange in Texas
From CNBC: 2025-02-12 09:40:12
The New York Stock Exchange is expanding to Texas, with NYSE Chicago moving to the Lone Star state and becoming NYSE Texas. This move comes as TXSE Group prepares to launch the Texas Stock Exchange, raising $161 million and aiming to start trading in early 2026.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott cited ESG rules as a motivation for a Texas-based exchange, aiming to ensure Texas companies aren’t cut off from capital markets due to policy decisions made in New York. Texas is also becoming a competitor to Delaware as a legal home for major companies like Tesla and Meta Platforms.
Trading at NYSE and other major stock exchanges is mostly electronic, with stocks trading on multiple exchanges even if they have one primary listing. Texas is positioning itself as a business-friendly state with the potential to attract more companies and investments in the future.
