Southern Copper Q4 Earnings Miss Estimates, Sales Rise Y/Y

Southern Copper Corporation reported fourth-quarter 2024 earnings of $1.01 per share, slightly missing estimates but showing a 74% increase from the previous year. Sales of $2.784 billion exceeded expectations, with a 21.3% year-over-year increase. Copper, zinc, and silver sales volumes rose, but molybdenum sales declined slightly.
In terms of production, Southern Copper saw an increase in copper, molybdenum, zinc, and silver output in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year. The company’s cost of sales rose, but operating profit and adjusted EBITDA both showed significant year-over-year growth.
Looking ahead to 2025, Southern Copper expects steady copper production, a significant increase in zinc output, and higher silver production. Molybdenum production, however, is projected to decrease compared to 2024 levels. The company’s stock has performed well, with a 19.9% gain over the past year.
In comparison, Freeport-McMoRan Inc. and Centrus Energy Corp. also reported their fourth-quarter earnings. Freeport-McMoRan saw a decline in net income and sales, while Centrus Energy beat earnings estimates and reported strong sales growth.
