John McAfee’s bodyguard, Jimmy Gale Watson Jr., has pleaded guilty to involvement in a $13 million cryptocurrency fraud case, where McAfee and others allegedly manipulated prices through social media platforms.
Roger Ver, a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency world, was arrested in Spain last April for tax evasion related to underreporting capital gains from Bitcoin sales in 2014.
Watson admitted to working with McAfee and others to promote cryptocurrencies through Twitter and other social media platforms, while misrepresenting McAfee’s investments to inflate prices and defraud investors.
McAfee faces charges of conspiracy to commit commodities and securities fraud, conspiracy to commit securities and touting fraud, as well as money laundering conspiracy offenses.
Ver, known as “Bitcoin Jesus,” is a well-known advocate for Bitcoin Cash and has been involved in various controversies within the cryptocurrency community over the years.
