Walmart sell-off bizarre, buy stock despite tariff risks: Bill Simon
From CNBC: 2025-02-22 09:00:01
Former Walmart U.S. CEO Bill Simon believes Walmart stock is a great buy opportunity due to a sell-off linked to profit growth concerns and tariff fears. He remains positive on Walmart’s outlook, even in the face of potential tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico. Simon sees Walmart as a nimble retailer capable of navigating any tariff challenges through strategic sourcing and product redirection. Walmart shares recently took a hit, dropping almost 9% in a week and over 6% on earnings day, marking the worst performance since May 2022. Despite the recent dip, Simon finds the sell-off perplexing given Walmart’s strong earnings performance. He previously warned of a “bubble” at Walmart last May due to affluent consumers, but now believes higher-income shoppers may stick with Walmart long-term. Walmart stock is currently down 10% from its all-time high in February but remains up 64% over the past year.
