Mortgage rates increase slightly, but remain below 7%, supporting potential buyers and sellers

Mortgage rates saw a slight increase this week, with the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaging 6.67% on March 20, 2025, up from 6.65% the previous week and down from 6.87% a year ago. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage also rose slightly to 5.83% from 5.80% last week and 6.21% a year ago. Freddie Mac’s Chief Economist noted that the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage has remained below 7% for nine consecutive weeks, providing support for both potential buyers and sellers in the housing market.
