French luxury retailer Printemps opens its first U.S. store in New York City’s Financial District, boasting a wide range of merchandise including rare French brands. The store features unique architecture, luxury and French brands mix, and exclusive services like beauty treatments and repairs. The U.S. location has experiential offerings like rotating displays and food concepts.
The store includes a Red Room adorned with red and gold mosaics, designated an interior landmark by NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission. Printemps transformed the room into a “shoe forest” where shoppers can browse footwear while enjoying a glass of wine. The store also features a fine dining restaurant led by Top Chef finalist Gregory Gourdet, opening in April.
Despite a slowdown in global luxury spending, the U.S. market remains attractive for luxury brands due to consumer resilience. Global luxury industry sales are projected to grow 1% to 3% annually through 2027. Luxury spending across goods and services totaled an estimated $500 billion in 2024, with the U.S. having the healthiest economy among major economies.
High-end retailers like LVMH-owned Tiffany & Co. and Louis Vuitton are investing in large physical stores in New York City to enhance the in-person luxury shopping experience. Internationally based retailers with lower price points are also expanding in the U.S. market. Printemps saw an opportunity in the U.S. market, with American customers becoming the third-largest spenders for the brand.
