Toyota plans to build its first R&D center in India to boost sales

Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan’s top automaker, is reportedly planning to build its first research and development (R&D) center in India to boost sales in the country. The R&D facility will be located in Bengaluru, near Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s vehicle assembly plant in Bidadi, and is expected to be operational by 2026. The center will initially employ 200 engineers, eventually scaling up to 1,000. India has become a key export base for Toyota, with a 35% increase in vehicle sales and an 18% increase in production last year. Popular models include the Innova Hycross and Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
