Buzz Solutions, a member of NVIDIA Inception program, uses AI to help utility companies monitor and maintain their infrastructure. The company’s vision AI technology analyzes inspection data collected by drones and helicopters to identify potential issues before they cause outages or wildfires. PowerGUARD, a container-based application, uses AI to analyze video streams from substation cameras in real time and send alerts for security, safety, and equipment issues.

Kaitlyn Albertoli, CEO of Buzz Solutions, believes AI is just beginning to make an impact in the utility industry by enabling workers to take action faster. The company’s use of NVIDIA DeepStream software and Metropolis framework on the Jetson platform or cloud-based virtual machines improves performance and reduces costs. AI helps identify critical risks like rusted components, vegetation encroachment, and sparking issues before they escalate.

Telenor recently opened Norway’s first AI factory, offering secure data processing on Norwegian soil with a focus on environmental responsibility. Joshua Parker, senior director of corporate sustainability at NVIDIA, discusses how AI and accelerated computing drive sustainability by addressing environmental challenges. Daniel Castro from ITIF addresses concerns about AI’s energy consumption and the need for energy-efficient technology development.
