The cast of “Critical Role,” made up of professional voice actors, began live-streaming Dungeons & Dragons a decade ago, now running a media empire with a production studio, publishing arm, gaming division, streaming service, record label, and charity initiative. They generated $9.6 million from Twitch between 2019 and 2021. They have created a fantasy world called Exandria, expanding through partnerships and in-house production, with thousands of hours of original content and numerous books and comics.
Critical Role’s third campaign, featuring Bell’s Hells, ended with an 8-hour finale after 121 episodes. They are looking to delve into new domains, exploring animation and experiential projects. “The Legend of Vox Machina” on Amazon Prime Video was funded by fans and is now in its fourth season. The company announced a new limited series, “Wildemount Wildings,” set to launch in April.
Critical Role’s publishing arm, Darrington Press, is releasing a romance novel, fairy tales, and a self-help book. The main cast is gearing up for a live show tour. They sold out Wembley Stadium in London last fall. The company has developed a new table top roleplaying game system called Daggerheart, set to be released in May, which will be the basis for much of their future video content.
