India’s Tata Motors and auto parts makers supplying Tesla saw a 1.2% drop in the auto sector after Trump announced 25% tariffs on imported cars and parts. Tata Motors slid 5%, Sona Comstar, Tesla’s supplier, dropped over 4%. Tesla CEO Elon Musk called the impact on the EV maker “significant.”

The 25% tariffs will start on April 2 for cars and light trucks, and on May 3 for auto parts. Tata Motors’ luxury cars from Jaguar Land Rover are imported into the U.S. from the UK and Slovakia. Samvardhana Motherson, India’s top auto parts supplier, fell over 2%, while Bharat Forge, another Tesla supplier, was down 0.4%.

Samvardhana’s top markets are the U.S. and India, accounting for 20% of revenue. Sona Comstar’s revenue from North America, mainly the U.S., makes up 40%. Global carmakers like Toyota, Hyundai, Stellantis, and Ford also saw declines after Trump’s announcement, reflecting the impact on the industry.
