The U.S. SEC has dismissed enforcement actions against crypto firms Kraken, Consensys Software Inc., and Cumberland DRW LLC in a significant reversal. The cases were officially dropped with prejudice on March 27, not reflecting the merits of the SEC’s claims. The move is part of a broader recalibration for the Commission. Kraken, Consensys, and Cumberland had faced charges of operating unregistered securities exchanges or brokers. This decision is seen as a turning point in U.S. crypto regulation, following similar dropped cases involving other major companies. Bitcoin was trading at $87,391.03 at the time of writing.
