Visa bids $100 million to replace Mastercard as Apple’s new credit card partner, WSJ reports

Visa has reportedly offered Apple around $100 million to take over the Apple Card partnership from Mastercard. This move is part of Visa’s aggressive push to secure the credit card program, typically offering upfront payments for large card programs. American Express is also vying for the Apple Card partnership, aiming to become both the issuer and network. Goldman Sachs and Apple ended their credit card partnership in 2019, prompting several financial firms to compete for the spot. Reuters previously reported talks between Apple and Barclays, Synchrony Financial, and JPMorgan Chase for the credit card partnership. Goldman Sachs had entered the consumer business nearly a decade ago to diversify revenue streams but scaled down its retail ambitions by late 2022 after setting aside billions for potential losses.
