Intel and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co are in talks to form a joint venture to run Intel’s factories. TSMC would take a 20% stake in the new company. The White House and Commerce department officials are pushing for a deal to resolve Intel’s crisis. Intel and TSMC declined to comment. TSMC had previously pitched to Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom for stakes in a joint venture with Intel. Intel appointed Lip-Bu Tan as CEO in March to revive its fortunes. The company’s efforts to manufacture chips for external clients have faced challenges. Intel reported a net loss of $18.8 billion in 2024. The company’s shares lost 60% of their value in 2024 but have since recovered. TSMC plans to invest $100 billion in the U.S. by building five additional chip facilities.
