Liberty Mutual Insurance names new chairman

Timothy Sweeney has been appointed as chairman of Liberty Mutual Holding Company, starting on 9 April 2025. Sweeney currently serves as president and CEO, taking over from David Long in January 2023. Long, who spent four decades at Liberty Mutual, will retire, passing the chairman role to Sweeney.
Founded in 1912 and based in Boston, Liberty Mutual is the ninth-largest global P&C insurer, with $50.2bn in annual revenue as of 31 December 2024. The company operates in 29 countries, offering a wide range of insurance products such as commercial automobile, property, liability, homeowners, and more.
In a recent announcement, Liberty Mutual revealed plans to consolidate all personal lines products under the Liberty Mutual brand by 2026, leading to the retirement of the Safeco Insurance brand acquired in 2008. This strategic move aims to streamline the company’s offerings and enhance brand recognition in the market.
