Australia-based Lindian Resources has started early-stage site works at the Kangankunde rare earths project in Malawi, considered one of the world’s significant undeveloped rare earth assets. Construction on a new 5km access road began in February 2025 to accelerate stage one construction and reduce risks, with completion expected in the second quarter of 2025. The company emphasizes local workforce involvement and sustainable development practices.
The project delivery chair, Zac Komur, highlighted the company’s commitment to progressing Kangankunde with urgency and a fresh perspective. By collaborating with skilled contractors, the current road works are ahead of schedule, resulting in time and cost savings. In December 2024, Lindian Resources signed a non-binding term sheet with Gerald Group for a $50m funding package to support the project.
