Greencore and Bakkavor have extended talks over a potential £1.2bn takeover bid. Bakkavor’s board would recommend the offer if Greencore made a firm bid. The deadline was extended to May 9th for further discussions. The deal would give Greencore 56% ownership of the combined group.
Greencore’s planned acquisition aims to create a top UK convenience food business with a £4bn revenue. Bakkavor, a UK-based company, generates over 80% of its revenue in the UK but also operates in the US and China. Greencore, based in Dublin, supplies food to major UK grocers like Tesco.
In 2018, Greencore exited the US market after a decade. The deal still requires competition regulator approval. Talks continue on other terms and conditions. Both companies conduct due diligence. The proposed deal would reshape the UK’s food industry landscape.
