General Motors (GM) plans to temporarily halt production at the CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, starting April 14. Layoffs are expected by the end of the year, with workers returning in May for limited production. Production will cease again until October 2025, with the plant operating on a single shift, resulting in around 500 layoffs. The company aims to retool the facility for the new model year of commercial electric vehicles. The move follows the imposition of tariffs by the U.S., impacting the industry. GM stock is down over 15% year-to-date and nearly 1% over the past 12 months.
