April 15 is not just Tax Day this year – it’s also the deadline to file your 2021 return and potentially claim up to $1,400 in unclaimed stimulus payments from the third round of COVID-19 relief.
The Recovery Rebate Credit is still available for those who never received a stimulus check and have yet to file their 2021 return within the three-year window.
Approximately one million taxpayers missed out on claiming credits totaling $2.4 billion due to filing errors, confusion over eligibility, or simply not realizing they qualified.
IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel stated that a lack of awareness and the credit’s complexity have left substantial aid on the table that eligible individuals can still recover.
Eligible taxpayers automatically received the latest stimulus checks via direct deposit or paper check, but those who didn’t file their 2021 tax return may have missed out. Free filing options are available for all individuals, regardless of income level.
It is important to file your 2021 tax return to ensure eligibility for stimulus payments and other benefits.
